Monte Sahaja is located in a rural part of Portugal with limited transport, so here is some information that will help plan your journey.
- The quickest and easiest way to Monte Sahaja is by train to Funcheira from Lisbon and Faro, the two closest cities with airports.
- Please consider the train times when booking your flights. Flights landing in the afternoon may require an overnight stay in Lisbon or Faro.
- Make sure you have the Reception number with you and let us know of any delays to your arrival. (Sahaja Reception: +351 933 410 807)
Trains to Funcheira
The train to Funcheira takes 2 hours from Lisbon and 1.5 hours from Faro. You can find the latest information online at Comboios de Portugal.
Suitable trains from Lisbon:
10:02 from Lisboa Oriente (arrives at Funcheira at 11:56)
14:02 from Lisboa Oriente (arrives at Funcheira at 15:53)
Suitable trains from Faro:
14:15 from Faro (arrives at Funcheira at 15:48)
Tickets can be purchased at the station or online here. In the summer months, we advise you to purchase your ticket online in advance.
On the train, each stop is announced a short time in advance, so be prepared to disembark at Funcheira as it only stops for 2 minutes. When travelling from Lisbon, the station before is Ermidas-Sado. When travelling from Faro, the station before is Santa-Clara Saboia.

Funcheira Station to Monte Sahaja
When arriving by train, you can take a taxi from Funcheira station to Monte Sahaja. It takes approximately 20 minutes and costs around 25€. There may be a local taxi at the station. However, as it may be booked, we suggest you pre-book a taxi a few days in advance by getting in touch with Pedro on +351 964 220 621. (Pedro prefers to be contacted on WhatsApp)
Lisbon Airport to Lisboa Oriente (main train station in Lisbon)
You can take a taxi for around 10€ or the metro. Both journeys are 10-15 minutes. For the metro, you can buy a ‘Viva Viagem Card’ (0.50€) which is reloadable, so keep it for your return trip. You can buy and load this card at the Ticket Machines and Ticket Offices in the metro station. A one-way metro ride is 1.65€ and trains run every few minutes from 6:30am to 1:00am daily.
Faro Airport to Faro Train Station
You can take a taxi from Faro airport to the train station for around 12-15€, or the local bus. Local buses 14 and 16 depart from outside the airport every 30 minutes. A single ticket costs 2.50€ and the journey is about 20 minutes. The train station is the second last stop and you should ask the driver to indicate the stop.
Travelling by Car to Monte Sahaja
If you intend to come by car or by taxi straight from the airport to Sahaja, please arrange to arrive either at 12:20pm or 4:20pm. If you come with your own car, please check with Sahaja Reception ahead of time as parking is limited at Sahaja.
