The Only Thing Lost in Awakening is the False Self

15 Sep, 2026 | 44:32

Meeting the sangha in Yogi Bhavan, Moojibaba sheds light on the fear and postponement that can seem to stand in the way of awakening.

“The personal sense of self keeps appearing.
And it can keep on appearing,
even after the realisation of the Self.
That is actually good news.
I will tell you why it is good news.

Because perhaps the deeper fear that is in many people is that,
‘If I realise the Self, I am going to vanish.
I’ve got a wife, children, I’ve got a job—
I’m going to have to sacrifice all of this
for something I don’t really know.’

Is it scary? Of course that’s scary.
But is it true? It’s not true.”

“Nothing I can perceive through the mind or the senses can be what I am searching for.”

So where else is left to look now?
Slow down. I’m not in a hurry because where we normally look for anything is through the medium of the senses, or with the mind.

Where else is left to look for anything?

"You ask 'What is in the way?' For my person, it is the constant belief in ‘me’.”

Whatever is perceivable, cannot be that which sees it.
This is just a simple fact.
So many things come and go through your mind.

If you were any of them,
when they go as they do and they must go,
you would be gone also.

“The Self feels like an intermittent state, but I see you–you are all the time this!”

You’re also all the time this.
But the mind says, ‘Oh, I’m getting close.’
We so much listen to our mind,
but this is the one thing you can never not be.

“Something is attached to this ‘I-me’ that I’ve been creating for such a long time, for lives.”

Are you very pleased and satisfied with what you have created?
