About a Stay in Monte Sahaja

A Guest Stay Retreat offers dedicated students of Moojibaba the opportunity to be immersed in the supportive satsang environment of Monte Sahaja.
We welcome you into this auspicious space of contemplation.

Visiting Monte Sahaja is by invitation only.
The centre is not open for drop-in or casual visits.

Monte Sahaja is Moojibaba’s home and the Centre for Self Realisation. It is located in the hills of the Alentejo region, about two hours south of Lisbon in the least populated area of Portugal. Sahaja is a centre deeply supportive of meditation and Self-inquiry, with many contemplative areas created by Moojibaba himself. It is entirely dedicated to serving those in search of the realisation of the Self. Monte Sahaja is also a lighthouse that shares Moojibaba’s teachings worldwide.

Sustainability
Alentejo is a tranquil and beautiful area of Portugal with a rich cultural heritage and a slower pace of life. It is also known for its hot and dry summers that make it prone to drought. As a conscious choice to conserve water, over the years we have implemented various water saving methods including compost toilets, bucket showers and a water recycling system. We have found these systems to work very well, not only for the low impact on the region’s resources, but also for the simplicity and harmony that this conscious way of living brings.

Facilities and Accommodation
Although Monte Sahaja is beautiful and comfortable, the facilities are simple and modest. The accommodations have lights, however they are mostly without power points. The land of Monte Sahaja is quite hilly, so a basic level of physical fitness is needed to walk around the land. However, we do have a buggy service for those who require it. The accommodations vary between a 5 or 10 minute walk from the central area—as much as possible, we allocate the accommodations appropriately to suit each one’s fitness level. Despite the spaciousness of the land, each living area feels held inside the embrace of Sahaja.

Our accommodations consist of comfortable tents on wooden platforms, dormitories, individual row house rooms, small huts and ‘tuts’ (tiny huts). Each neighbourhood has central bathroom and shower facilities.

AccommodationRetreat Cost

Our dining hall provides delicious, nourishing vegetarian meals. We have filtered, very good quality drinking water which you can find in various drinking water taps in the central area and around the land.

Schedule and Daily Flow
Visitors are invited to approach their time at Monte Sahaja with openness and integrity—with a conscious effort to make full use of the supportive and spiritually uplifting environment that Sahaja offers.

Rather than creating a retreat schedule now in advance, live satsangs with Moojibaba and additional programs will be scheduled over the course of the retreat as it unfolds.

We have a daily program which includes contemplations and satsang recordings, and light seva opportunities to take part in daily tasks with the sangha. Additional programs can include Laughing Yoga and musical offerings.

A typical daily schedule:

7:30Contemplation
8:00Breakfast
12:30Contemplation
13:00Lunch
18:30Dinner

Who can apply?

The satsangs on Sahaja Express allow each one to be in real time with Moojibaba’s guidance, and are essential preparation for making the most of a stay at Monte Sahaja. We understand exceptions will arise, and if you would like to check about this you can reach out to us at our contact form here.
