The greatest disciples of a master like Christ
were not necessarily his contemporaries.
They may not have been among the renowned twelve.
The twelve had to be who they were for the story
to bring about what it should in accordance with the
will of God. But the greatest disciples
may not have been there at the actual time
of the historical Christ.
It is the total trust and belief in the power of his words
and spirit that produces a true disciple.
‘The greatest one’ means one who disappears
or merges in God or the Master
due to perfect understanding
and surrender—one in whom the concept of separation
has perished. Perhaps his truest disciples are
yet to be born, and through them he comes again.
