The fee for participating online is £100 GBP (Early bird price of £80 until 1 July, 2018) Regardless whether you attend physically or online, this price includes access to the video recordings via Mooji.tv for 6 months (live streaming and downloadable).
Is this a residential program? Do you provide accommodation and meals?
Those who choose to attend physically in Kasteel de Berckt will be able to select from a variety of housing options. These range from tents to shared rooms. Please see the Accommodation section for more info. Meals are included in the price.
Will it be booked out as quickly as other events?
The venue can hold up to 1500 people, but we do recommend people to book as soon as possible as we cannot anticipate how quickly the spaces will fill up.
What is the schedule?
The retreat begins on Thursday, 9 August with a Welcome & Orientation meeting at 20:30. There will be two Satsangs on each of the following days, which may sometimes take the form of a Silent Sitting with Mooji. The retreat will end on Tuesday, 14 August after the morning Satsang. Satsangs vary in length, typically running for 1.5 – 2 hours, and occasionally longer.
What is the difference between a Silent Retreat and a Satsang Intensive?
A Silent Retreat is a residential retreat with participants usually eating, sleeping and attending Satsang on-site. At this retreat it is also possible to stay in nearby accommodation. Silence is maintained throughout the duration of the retreat. Daily activities such as work, reading, dancing, writing etc. are suspended to focus the attention inward. In Satsang Intensives, participants arrange their own food and accommodation. Silence is maintained in and around the Satsang venue and is recommended for the duration of the Intensive, but there is the possibility to continue with daily activities if needed.

I really want to attend the Silent Retreat, but I can’t arrive on the first day. Can I still come?
We ask everyone to attend the Welcome & Orientation meeting on 9 August at 20:30 as it gives all important information about the retreat before entering the silence. So please make your travel arrangements accordingly.
A friend who does not speak English wants to attend this Silent Retreat with Mooji. Is that okay?
Can I bring my child to the retreat?
No, we cannot accommodate children at this retreat.
What is Satsang, self-inquiry, and the Invitation?
Mooji’s pointings to our true nature are simple, direct and profound. Satsang literally means ‘association with the highest Truth’ and also refers to a gathering of people, often in the presence of a teacher or master, who are searching for the highest Truth. Satsang in the form of the Invitation and self-inquiry is a powerful aid to Self-realisation. It is important that everyone who attends this retreat first watches these important videos to become more familiar with the Invitation and self-inquiry: An Invitation to Freedom and A Simple and Profound Introduction to Self-Inquiry.
Who will benefit most from being in Satsang?
Satsang benefits those who are longing for Self-discovery and in whom the urge to be free is alive and compelling. It is for earnest and sincere seekers of Truth.
Why is the retreat silent?
All retreats with Moojibaba are conducted in silence. The maintaining of silence throughout the 5 days supports your immersion in the Truth by keeping the attention focused inward.
Can I read or write during the retreat?
No. We ask you to please refrain from reading, writing, using the Internet, drawing, singing or any form of the expressive arts. In other words, drop all outer activities for the duration of the retreat. Moojibaba encourages us to turn our attention inward and make use of the opportunity not to be distracted by any habitual activity. Books written by Mooji and masters such as Sri Ramana Maharshi and Sri HWL Poonja (Papaji) are an exception, as they serve the same purpose as the retreat: to immerse us in the energy field of Truth.
What if I require a special diet?
Only vegetarian meals will be offered for this retreat. Upon registration, you can choose whether you need a gluten free, dairy free or vegan diet. Please note that these are the only special diet options that can be offered for this retreat.
How far is my accommodation from toilet facilities, Satsang space or dining area?
The terrain at Kasteel de Berckt is flat, and when staying onsite the distance from satsang hall, dining ares and accommodations is very short.
I can’t sit on the floor. Can I sit on a chair?
Yes chairs will be available inside the Satsang hall.
Do you provide cushions to sit on the floor?
No, we advise to bring your own cushion if you wish to sit on the floor.
Do we have to bring our own bedding and towels?
If you are camping you must bring your own tent or campervan and all your own bedding and camping gear. We don’t have any mats or blankets for rental.
If you are staying in a room onsite, the castle will provide your bedding and towels.
Physical and Mental Well-Being
Is Satsang a form of therapy or a replacement for medical treatment?
Satsang is not a form of therapy and should not be used as a replacement for medical treatment. Satsang in the form of the Invitation and self-inquiry is a powerful aid to self-realisation. Mooji’s teachings are most profound in guiding seekers of Truth to ultimate awakening. However, his pointings and teachings are not meant as a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Any change or discontinuation therapeutic psychological, psychiatric or other medical treatment should be undertaken with the supervision and guidance of a medical or other specialist mental health clinician.
Are you able to provide support for those who are not able to move independently, for example, due to physical disability or age?
No, unfortunately we are not able to provide such support at present.
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Is this Silent Retreat suitable for those with mental health or psychiatric disorders?
If you are currently receiving or have previously received any medical treatment or therapy for issues related to mental health, Silent Retreats may not be suitable for you. Please check with a medical or other mental health clinician whether attending a Retreat, or participating online, is suitable for you at this time.
When might attending a Silent Retreat not be advisable?
Those experiencing psychiatric conditions, or other unusually strong emotional upheavals might not benefit from a Silent Retreat, and occasionally, it could adversely affect pre-existing conditions. The questionnaire below may help you decide whether you are in a position to benefit fully from a Silent Retreat.
Please note that this is intended as a guide only, and does not constitute or replace medical or psychiatric advice. If the answer to any of the questions is ‘yes’ please be aware that a Silent Retreat may not be appropriate for you at this time.
- Have you ever or are you currently suffering from and/or receiving treatment for any of the following conditions: Anxiety disorders (which includes generalised anxiety, agoraphobia and panic disorder), mood disorders (which includes clinical depression, mania and bipolar disorder), obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), personality disorders, schizophrenia, psychosis (on its own or as part of another condition)?
- Are you currently taking any prescribed or non-prescribed medication for the treatment of a mental health condition?
- Have you used any psychotropic (mind altering) non-prescription drugs for recreational, spiritual or self-medicating purposes within the past 6 months?
- Do you currently have any substance use disorders (this includes harmful use, dependence and addiction) or have you undertaken a detoxification from substance use within the past 12 months?
- Have you experienced any aggravation or deterioration of your mental health during the past 12 months irrespective of whether you have sought specialist advice for it or not?
- Have you ever experienced any unpleasant or unwanted effects (these can include physical, cognitive, emotional or ‘energetic’) that have persisted beyond the duration of your participation in a spiritual practice or retreat, which may have interfered in your wellbeing and/or functional abilities?
Answering ‘yes’ to any of the questions does not categorically mean you cannot attend a Silent Retreat program. It requires you to seek specialist advice and receive confirmation from a medical or other professionally registered clinical specialist that your attendance is unlikely to adversely affect your health condition. Please be aware that we are not able to provide medical or psychiatric support or expertise.
I have been advised not to attend, or can see from the questionnaire that this is not the right time for me to participate. Does this mean Satsang is not for me?
Being in Satsang with Mooji does not mean that you have to be physically present or attend a retreat or intensive. Satsang works in many subtle ways. Experiencing a mental health or psychiatric condition is not something that excludes anyone from deepening in their Satsang or fully realising their true nature. However, proper medical guidance and treatment as necessary is still very important. The two can support each other.
Can Satsang be a cause of mental health imbalance?
Satsang does not cause mental health or psychiatric disorders. Occasionally, Satsang may bring up latent traumatic imprints or deep-rooted tendencies in the body-mind, which can trigger strong, seemingly overwhelming, thoughts and emotional responses. Satsang offers an opportunity to recognise, release and transcend these states. However, if there is a mental health condition, a participant may feel overwhelmed by the arising of their own hidden tendencies, and feel unable to control these projections or energies, and so additional medical and psychiatric support may be required. Please refer to the questionnaire above for more information.
