People think they need to fight just one battle to beat
the ego, but you have to keep fighting him until you
break his power. Your weapons need not be made
of steel. Your weapon is your silence and your firm
abidance in the Self. Your ego-mind is like weeds.
You cannot just pull the weeds up once. They come
again and again. You keep pulling them up until you
frustrate their power. Then you have some clear space,
a lovely season to plant your fruit trees. However, you
always keep a watchful eye. Never think you have
beaten the weeds. Just enjoy your space in the here
and now. Should the weeds return, uprooting them
becomes increasingly easy for you. Just don’t let a
weed become a bush, and a bush a mighty tree.
